Distribution:-

    Northern Australia

Habitat:-

  1. Found in undulating plains of Eucalyptus and Leptochloa or box woodland, in wet places, the edges of freshwater lagoons, seasonally dry pools, alluvial streams, or behind river levees
  2. Grows in black, red loam or clay soils in open habitats

Morphological character:-

  1. Perennial tall more than 2m and erect grass with strap-shaped
  2. Leaves are gray-green or dark-green
  3. Panicles open, panicle axis scabrous
  4. Spikelets pear-shaped 6 to 9mm long and 2 to 3.2mm wide, with soft, wispy awns less than 5cm
  5. Anthers are 3.5 to 5.5mm long

Specific traits:-

  1. Drought tolerance
  2. Resistance to Brown Plant hopper
