Distribution: -

    Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Zaire, and Zimbabwe.

Habitat:-

  1. Found in open or semi-open habitats, such as forest margins, grassland and thickets, degraded mopane scrub, open bush or shifting cultivation fields, and rice fields; swampy areas, around water holes and pools, on riverbanks that flood to 1m depth
  2. Prefers back clay or sandy soil

Morphological character:-

  1. Annual, erect grass with a soft ligule more than 3mm that splits when dry
  2. Panicles open, basal panicle branches widely spreading
  3. Spikelets more than 5.5mm long and 3cm long
  4. Anthers 1.5 to 3.2mm long

Specific traits:-

  1. Resistance to Brown Planthopper, Zigzag leafhopper
