Distribution:-

    Australia, Bangladesh; Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam

Habitat:-

  1. Found at the edge of or in forests, evergreen or deciduous forests; or low, open vegetation; in abandoned or rarely on the edge of cultivated rice fields or fruit/plantain gardens, in Southeast Asia near the coast
  2. Grows in seasonally wet areas, ditches, swampy/marsh places, near small water holes, and along lakesides, streams, or rivers
  3. Prefers alluvial silt soils or sandy soils on limestone
  4. Found in full sun or partial shade

Morphological character:-

  1. Perennial, erect, and usually rhizomatous grass of variable height
  2. Panicles open, basal panicle branches whorled with spikelets inserted half way or more from base
  3. Spikelets 4.3 to 8.8mm long and 2 to 3.3mm wide
  4. Anthers around 1.5 to 4.5mm long

Specific traits:-

  1. Resistance to Brown planthopper, White-backed planthopper, Green leafhopper, thrips
